Welcome to Northwood Farm

With views across to the South Downs, Northwood Farm lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Hampshire/Sussex border, close to the enchanted forest of Stansted Park. Our small flock of purebred Jacob and coloured crossbred sheep graze the historic park surrounding Stansted House in addition to our small acreage at home.

The Northwood Flock

Managed by owners Peter Robinson and Kate Steed, the Northwood Flock are naturally grass-reared on the Stansted estate to the best welfare standards on ground managed within the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The sheep live out almost all year round and in winter are fed on home-grown hay and haylage. They are housed when the weather is at its worst in a spacious barn on a deep, clean straw bed. We use natural homeopathic and herbal remedies whenever possible and farm without the use of agro-chemicals. The only reason we are not totally organic is because we want to have the choice of vaccinating and worming our livestock as required.

Eco-friendly quality wool

We love our sheep and look after them to the best of our ability and their good health is reflected in the quality of the wool they produce.

We are very eco-conscious so gain a great satisfaction from producing a sustainable fibre which is naturally-coloured and created without the use of harmful chemical dyes. All our woollen products are made in the UK with the lowest carbon footprint possible and by using British rural craftsmen we hope to help keep alive the traditions of a woollen industry which is rapidly disappearing from our shores.

Top quality home-produced fodder

The quality of the hay and haylage we make is outstanding because we only make it when the conditions are right and because it is free from fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides, it is also virtually organic. As we are small producers, it is all sold locally so it doesn’t consume unnecessary food miles.

Visitors are welcome to the farm by arrangement.
